Rana kreeg de Ziekte van Bell in augustus 2014. Ze was toen promovendus in Iran. Door de restverschijnselen van de Ziekte van Bell kon ze zich niet concentreren op haar studie. Maar Rana maakte zich vooral zorgen om haar zoon, die de asymmetrische gezichtsuitdrukkingen van zijn moeder begon te imiteren.
Rana’s werd toegelaten tot ons humanitaire project ‘Bring back your Smile!’ en werd gratis behandeld dankzij de genereuze donaties die ons helpen het project te runnen.
Na voltooiing van het 9 maanden durende revalidatieprogramma en 4 keer een bezoek aan de Crystal Touch-kliniek in Rotterdam voor haar werksessies, deelt Rana haar ervaring in dit verhaal om andere Ziekte van Bell-patiënten te inspireren en hoop te geven.

Hoe het allemaal begon
“Dear Dr. Pashov,
I really appreciate your kind offer on the Bell’s palsy support group. I’ve been diagnosed with Bell’s palsy about 19 months ago (August 2014). I partly recovered but still have evident synkinesis while smiling, chewing and so on…
I live in Iran, and unfortunately couldn’t find a proper local solution for my problem here in Tehran. I’m a PhD student, and this Bell’s palsy has had a very intense effect on my concentration. Most of the time I wake up at midnight trying to smile and checking my face movement… But maybe the most miserable part of my case is my 5-year-old son who unconsciously imitates my way of asymmetric smiling and talking and this makes me very sad and anxious…

Bezoek 1: Rana’s intakegesprek

Dit is Rana’s intakegesprek bij Crystal Touch tijdens haar eerste bezoek. Rana vertelt wie ze is en hoe het staat met de Ziekte van Bell die ze heeft.
Hieronder zijn de neurologische tests uitgevoerd tijdens het eerste bezoek. Dit bepaalde de conditie van Rana’s spieren en de mate van herstel. De conditie van haar spieren werd ook elektronisch gemeten met een elektromyogram (EMG). Dit gaf een objectieve maatstaf voor het herstel en een startpunt, zodat Rana’s herstel na haar behandeling kan worden beoordeeld. De specialisten passten ook hun eigen technieken toe, op grond van hun eigen ervaring, om te kijken hoe goed Rana’s herstel verliep en wat er in haar geval gedaan kon worden.

“I could find the most convincing and helpful experience of treatment since my Bell’s palsy out-break from two years ago here in Crystal Touch Clinic. Once there, you can quickly understand that it does worth coming all the way long from your country here to take help from the real specialists about Bell’s Palsy and the problems associated with a non-recovered facial paralysis.

Bezoek 3: Rana’s resultaten tot dusver

Rana heeft de eerste stappen op weg naar positieve resultaten gezet en begint merkbare vorderingen te maken.
“I felt relaxed in my face and vigorous in the whole body. I was drowsy after the first treatment day, but not after 2 others.
On the day of the procedure, I could feel the same on both sides; especially after the inside mouth massages. I felt the thickness of cheek muscles was the same on two sides, but the next day again the affected side felt a little thicker than the other side.
In the next morning, I felt I could smile more naturally, completely normal appearance of my eyes and minimum synkinesis; and relaxed skin.”
